Coastal Chic is Calling
My Spring/Summer 2025 Style Forecast
Ahoy—wait, scratch that.
This season deserves more than a sailor cliché. Spring/Summer 2025 is sailing straight into iconic with a salty breeze. It’s reminiscent of the 1950s sailor wife—ironed collars, nautical blues, and the wind blowing in her hair just right. She’s back, ladies! Only now, she’s wearing Loewe.
I was browsing through some lookbooks the other morning and couldn’t help but notice: this summer’s fashion itinerary is giving sailor wife meets golf-club chic. I didn’t mean to spot the trend before it hit, but naturally—I’m already sunbathing on deck while everyone else is still packing.
Let’s just say it’s hard to miss: Coastal Chic is having a main character moment. Not yacht-club try-hard, but something more embodied—navy blues, military greens, ivory linens, seafoam pastels, coral reds, and let’s not forget ‘butter yellows’ drifting alongside denim sets and knitted silhouettes. We’ve also got clean whites as palette cleansers, like yacht sails basking at golden hour. Then there are the tailored dresses—carrying a trace of old money, but not by reenacting (or, in many cases, faking) wealth—but by respecting quiet luxury.
There’s a sort of timelessness stitched into this season’s wardrobe. Tweeds are showing up with a sun-faded look—as if pulled out of a black-and-white photo from the Côte d’Azur in 1950. And in a shocking but fashionable twist, granny’s side-table linens are getting a second life as crochet tops and midi skirts that feel part vintage, part vacation this time. And dare I say it, even plaid is making a comeback—though personally, I’m not convinced it’s earned an encore.
As for accessories, my telescope catches the glimmer of abstract earrings on the horizon, but this time more gold than grandmother’s pearls. This season’s jewelry leans toward sculptural shapes, fluid lines, and beach silhouettes that speak before you do. No caption required.
Ballet flats are holding their ground from 2024, but this season they’re evolving in knit, mesh, or jelly. I’m even seeing strappy leather sandals—the kind made for dancing barefoot at sunset. Another detail that’s blooming this season is floral accents on footwear. They're popping up on sandal and heel straps everywhere.
On a side note, ponchos may even make a comeback. But not the 2000s kind. Think oversized silk wraps instead—like the woman you see in Positano who makes a walk to the café look like a resort campaign. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gucci planted the seed here, with their Art of Silk collection. Their 90 x 90 limited-edition scarves with all the signature prints are the ultimate soft launch of this season’s mood.
While 2024 gave us barrel jeans and the questionable camel-toe shoes, this year’s trend feels like taking the best out of grandma’s closet. Turns out, all it took was a better stylist to bring the throwbacks right back. And even though the silhouettes may be familiar, the mood is entirely different.
I look forward to SS25—because if its weather is as good as its fashion forecast, we won’t just be hot—we’ll be iconic.
But as my final note, let me say this—as fun as they are to renew our sense of fashion, trends are like yacht getaways: here one minute, gone the next. So before you fill your wardrobe with another wave of the moment, take a moment to reflect on your own sense of style.
Choose pieces that feel sacred to you… and, more importantly, your form. Trust your season—color-wise, vibe-wise, spirit-wise. And always remember that the best kind of fashion isn’t the one chasing the next drop. It’s the one that knows exactly when to anchor down and wear what she absolutely loves.
